MARIA LA PORTUGUESA
The lamentations of the Women of Castanheira (Cós) - 2000:
«The reed comes with a bunch from Alentejo, then we cut him, it gets wet, he gets into the pack and sulfur himself several times for him to clear, because it comes black. Then we choose the ones we want, takes off some black and then we work. To dye it, we do this in a boiler with boiling water. It is colored red, green, purple and white. He makes many calluses on the hands and deforms the bones, and if we take into account the prices of paints, the hours it takes to weave and the hours that a basket takes to weave (about two), we realize the fairness of the lamentations of these women."
